Audio Media Services opened in May of 1985 in Corvallis, Oregon. It started from the dream of establishing a recording studio business and creative outlet for recently relocated Los Angeles studio musician and record producer Gary Rowles. The original business plan was conceived as a partnership with longtime friend and fellow musician, Gary Watts. The concept was simple: GW would provide the construction and materials needed for the facility, and GR would provide the design, equipment, plus the studio experience and sonic mixing expertise required to make the new studio viable as a professional facility.

The original studio was located in an old metal building on the south edge of Corvallis, Oregon. It consisted of a simple tracking room, and a separate control room with a small 6-channel mixer, monitors, and a Teac 4-track tape deck. The original name for the business was Definitive Recording Associates. After 6 months, Gary Watts decided to leave, so Gary Rowles, as the only owner, renamed it Wake Robin Recording And Sound — named after the street that the original building site was located on. Quite original!!

Wake Robin Recording And Sound's reputation for quality, expertise and excellent service was soon established, and the news that there was a real studio in the area quickly spread within the mid-Willamette Valley's vibrant music community. Soon, radio and TV stations, ad agencies, and marketing reps from all types of local and regional businesses began to utilize the facility's capabilities, and as projects grew in scope, our client's needs became more complex. Wake Robin Recording And Sound expanded from a small single room studio to a multi-room facility with state-of-the-art digital equipment in just a couple of years — fully able to accommodate all our client's needs.

Enter the 1990's, when every audio professional witnessed a major transformation of the entire music recording industry's basic nature — including the introduction of the Internet, enabling digital on-line collaboration with artists, producers, writers and musicians all over the world — not to mention the cost of professional quality recording equipment dropping, giving artists and musicians the freedom to actually record and produce CD-quality music at home. Wake Robin Recording And Sound recognized the need to specialize — and the need to relocate. We also saw that a corporate image change would be beneficial, once the relocation was completed.

In October 2001, Wake Robin Recording And Sound opened its new office and studio and renamed itself Audio Media Services. The new facility is centrally located in the heart of downtown Corvallis, Oregon, and is easily accessible to the arts, music, and business community. We occupy a suite in a beautiful old historical building with lots of charm, and we enjoy the aesthetics of doing business in a University-based small city in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. And, Starbuck's is right upstairs — very convenient!

The new studio facility has a sonically tuned main room, and a great sounding vocal booth. Much attention has been given to the constant implementation of new digital technology, and a strong World Wide Web presence has been cultivated. Commercial clients have become more the focus of our marketing, and the successful introduction of an attractive and innovative message-on-hold presentation has complimented the basic direction of the business' focus. Plus, the ongoing requests from our clients to transfer, archive, and restore various audio source material from old media to CD has brought an excellent archiving specialist to our staff. Obviously, we have continued to maintain relevance with the times. And, our staff and facility will continue to maintain constant contact and communication with the state of the art as we constantly seek excellence.

Audio Media Services began its 20th year in business in May 2004. This is surely a testimony to the quality of our production, services, expertise, pricing, and timeliness handling our clients' projects. As we continue to serve our clients with our ability to create and produce great music, creative and innovative advertising, and the recording and preservation of the spoken word, we'd like to mention to you - please give us the opportunity to earn your business and trust. You will not be disappointed. And, thank you for visiting!

This company history would not be complete without mentioning the following people. Their efforts, resources, and early support of this vision will never be forgotten. Thanks to all of you for your help, and God bless you!!
